What Is Womb Wellness?
Or, why my healing journey also needs friendship, fashion, and good vibrations.

Just in case you’re new to this space of healing, I wanted to take some time to explain my understanding of womb wellness.
Queen Afua is the first person I ever heard use this term (and she most likely invented it) in her book Sacred Woman .
But in my own words, womb wellness is a holistic approach to health that focuses on physical and spiritual care of the womb, or the uterus, and therefore the life force of a woman.
“Holistic” means to address the whole of a person’s disposition to heal a dis-ease—such as nutrition, life experiences, and family trauma—not just blaming one organ or even that person’s physical body for the illness.
For example, a traditional doctor may recommend surgery to treat endometriosis or fibroids. They are focused only on the symptoms of the uterus organ (and essentially blaming the womb for its illness) but not on the root causes of the dis-ease, which may be many things happening at once in that woman’s body, mind, and spirit. (Some mental or spiritual dis-eases manifest as physical symptoms.) As a result, the condition may return even after treatment.
On the other hand, a holistic solution for these same dis-eases will focus on nutrition, naturopathic procedures, herbal medicine, cleansing, spiritual healing, physical exercise, mental health, and one’s relationship with their family, community, and God. This style of healing provides balance to multiple areas of a woman’s life, while restoring the womb and her body to their divine health.
This is why, as you read this newsletter about womb wellness, I’ll devote some space to writing about herbal remedies and natural healing techniques, but you’ll also see me talking about using flower essences for mental-emotional balance or using fashion to feel embodied.
All of these aspects of self are important for women in healing and maintaining your womb.
When we commit to womb wellness, we make our whole selves healthy in order to live our fullest, most embodied lives as sacred women.
